Location and Access

In the Maasai Mara ecosystem

Oreteti Mara Lodge is ideally located within the greater Maasai Mara ecosystem, offering easy access to prime wildlife areas while remaining peacefully removed from the busier safari circuits. Guests can reach the lodge by a scenic road transfer from Nairobi or by scheduled flight to a nearby Mara airstrip, followed by a short transfer. The lodge’s location allows guests to enjoy both convenience and a strong sense of immersion in nature from the moment they arrive.

Nairobi to Oreteti Mara Lodge by car

The road journey from Nairobi to the Maasai Mara is a scenic and immersive experience in its own right. Covering approximately 220–230 kilometres, the drive typically takes around 5 to 6 hours depending on traffic and road conditions.

The first leg — Nairobi to Narok town — spans roughly 140 kilometres and takes about 2 to 3 hours on a well-paved road. Narok serves as a convenient midway stop for fuel, food, or a rest break before continuing on to the lodge. Along the way, the drive passes through the breathtaking Great Rift Valley, with incredible viewpoints and a chance to experience Kenya’s diverse landscapes, bustling towns, and charming rural villages.

A 4WD vehicle is strongly recommended, particularly for the stretch from Narok to Oreteti Mara Lodge where roads can be rough. It is also advisable to travel during daylight hours, as wildlife frequently crosses the roads and night driving can be hazardous. During the rainy seasons — March to May and November to December — road conditions can become considerably more challenging.
