Wildlife safaris at its best
Game drives at Oreteti Mara Lodge are led by experienced local guides whose knowledge goes beyond wildlife — offering insight into the land, its rhythms, and the people who call it home. From birdwatching around the lodge to tracking animals across the Mara, every safari connects you to something deeper.
Oreteti Mara Lodge is some 25 minutes’ drive from the Oloololo gate of the Maasai Mara, one of Africa’s most renowned wildlife reserves, home to the Big Five and the annual Great Migration. Bordering Tanzania’s Serengeti, it offers year-round game viewing across open savannah, riverine forests, and rolling plains.
Experience the Maasai culture
Most people you will meet at Oreteti Mara Lodge are from nearby Maasai villages. The Maasai are well know for their ‘shuka,’ a cloth wrapped around the body, often red and decorated with beads. Patterns show age, marital status, and social standing. And the men are famous for their ‘Adumu’, or jumping dance. You may think all this is staged for tourism, but it is a real practice that continues today. You can visit a Manytatta (the small huts in the village) with guidance from our local guides and see how huts are built and beadwork is made. The Maasai maintain core values of the community, respect for elders and connection to the land.

EXCELLENT Based on 12 reviews Posted on Sanguinetti & Company, LLCTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Oreteti Mara Lodge is a unique and special place! The warm welcome includes a procession where staff and students of the adjacent Maasai Education Center sing in wonderful harmony as they offer you a welcome drink of fresh juice, cold towel to freshen up and escort you on to the lush beautiful property. Check-in and the welcome briefing from their host Olivia is short and thorough making it a seamless process on arrival. The tents are spacious, clean and airy. Comfortable large bed and at least 3 sitting/lounge areas inside and outside each tent makes it a cozy home in the bush. The shower and toilet facilities are new, clean and perfect for a tented stay. The lodge is eco-friendly using solar power, harvested rain water and they also practice sustainable permaculture in their bio garden which produces fresh, tasty organic fruits and vegetables. Most of the staff are students under training at the education center, it is refreshing to watch the local Maasai learn and grow into the tourism industry. As is the case at many lodges, not every single aspect is perfect at Oreteti, but there is nothing stopping guests from enjoying the most humbling, warm and authentic experience. It is a great place to learn deeply about Maasai culture and immerse oneself in daily excursions and activities that will create memories of a lifetime. Game Drives in the national park, Maasai Naming Ceremony, Circle of Stories, Football, Volleyball, Bird Watching, Nature Walks with a Maasai Naturalist, Maasai Education Center Tour and Volunteer Opportunities - these are just some of the engaging and immersive experiences available while staying at Oreteti. The property is suitable for volunteer groups, research groups, budget safari goers, yoga and wellness groups, anthropologists, cultural enthusiasts, multi-generational families and so on...book here if you are ready to enjoy a safari and more, all while making a true difference for the local Maasai community.Posted on Omar MulatyaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We spent the night at the house of hearts and loved our experience there. The entire team came to meet us when we arrived and we spent an amazing night with our kids at the beautiful house. In the morning we had a charming breakfast under a thatched roof in the garden. Olivia and Cornelius are outstanding. We really enjoyed our stay. Everyone went above and beyond our expectations. The team offered to help us when our car broke down and we were stranded. It was so reassuring to know they had our backs.Posted on Marcel LeeraarTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We hebben hier een fantastische tijd gehadPosted on Emma SophieTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ik kom hier zeker nog eens terug!!!Posted on anne boekTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The true Masai experience, we loved it. Most of the staff are students and it’s great to see how the run the hotel together. We normally stay in more luxurious lodges. But this one stands out because of the students. They are eager the learn, are most friendly and need all the support they can get. By staying at Oreteti Mara you can support the Masai students while having a great time. We went on several game drives, visited a Masai family, learned so much about the sacred tree, went on a bush walk and had breakfast and lunch near the hippo’s in the river. Thanks again to all the great staff.Posted on Lotte RippenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Amazing place. You should visit if you are really interested in the ancient Masai culture. The experience is super specialPosted on nova lunenburgTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
